Cagliari, endless waits at the emergency room: an inflatable sofa appears in the ambulance.

Extreme waits call for extreme measures. For a little comfort. The 118 emergency responders who work around Cagliari's emergency rooms have even purchased inflatable sofas to place inside their ambulances, forced to wait, on each shift, up to six or eight hours for their patients to be taken care of.
The inflatable sofa appeared outside a hospital in the capital, aboard a service vehicle. Sure, it's no use in the extreme heat —and the ambulance can't run all night with the engine running to power the air conditioning— but at least it allows you to stretch out and not have to sit on uncomfortable chairs or in the passenger compartment.
With the increased number of visitors to the island, linked to the greater influx of tourists, waiting times in emergency departments are also (further) increasing . And those who are on the ground every day, caring for the sick, are doing what they can to limit the suffering.
