It arrived from the Strait of Sicily. For two days it has been stationed off the coast of Sarrabus, in Sardinia: the movements of the tugboat Evgeniy Churov of the Russian Navy are under close observation. Its ordinary task is to support the movements of the submarine Krasnodar of the Moscow fleet.
If in mid-February the presence of the underwater vehicle was certain ( HERE THE NEWS ), these days it cannot be certified, but the hypothesis is far from being unfounded.
The Churov remained at sea just outside the restricted sea zone in front of the Quirra-Perdasdefogu range. Its movements were monitored by many specialized sites.
Among these is also Itamilradar: from the surveys it emerges that in the last hours the tugboat remained just outside Italian territorial waters, with a speed that never exceeded five knots.
"A possible explanation," it says, "could be the very rough sea conditions off the Algerian coast, which may have pushed the tugboat (and its possible companion, the submarine) to wait for better weather conditions before continuing west."
Yesterday morning "a surveillance mission was carried out by an ATR P-72B (registration MM62311) of the Guardia di Finanza, even if it does not appear to be directly connected to the presence of the Russian tugboat ".
