After repeated incursions in recent months, vandals have again attacked Su Forti, the ancient fort in Margine Rosso, Quartu . The thugs targeted the doors, dismantling the railings and throwing them to the ground. Someone passing by, shocked by what had happened, repositioned the railing near the window, but obviously couldn't secure it.
"In that area, we, as the Red Margin Committee, in collaboration with the Amici dei Fortini association," explains Amici dei Fortini president Emanuele Contu , "placed benches and organized initiatives to keep vandals away and try to make the place more pristine. And while there had been a lot of vandalism at the beginning, the situation calmed down a bit. This episode, however, demonstrated that there is still much to be done."
The fort was the original nucleus of the church of San Luca. Once the church was built, it was used for other purposes, such as weddings. The military garrison was built in the early 19th century as a bulwark against invasions from the sea. Having outlived its original purpose, it slowly fell into disrepair. Then, in the 1970s, the community of Margine Rosso, together with the friars of Sant'Antonio, mobilized to renovate the building and transform it into a church. And it was here that the current parish of Luca was founded in the 1980s. The San Luca area has been plagued by vandals for years. In an attempt to patch things up and restore some order, a few years ago, lighting was installed in the square, which has always been a meeting place for couples.
