"Astonished." This is how Cagliari's Councilor for Social Policies, Anna Puddu, described herself after learning of the statements made by Corrado Meloni, a regional councilor for the Brothers of Italy party, who described Via Roma as having been transformed into a souk . She wondered, "How, if we're not victims of cold ideology, can we consider this acceptance , which turns into tolerance of urban decay, to be inclusive and supportive? What's socially and charitably good about allowing messy and dirty camps , amid piles of garbage, astonished passersby, and resigned shopkeepers?"
Meloni, says Zedda, "should be advised, before making superficial and superficial statements, to consult the municipal documents, which clearly highlight the total disaster we have inherited."

Puddu's list seems overwhelming: "We found €44 million unspent on people forced to starve and suffer in our area. In just one month, we were able to deploy approximately €30 million." Furthermore, "€8 million was found in the poverty fund, sufficient resources to expand existing services, limited exclusively to the accommodation of the city's homeless in shelters open only in the evenings. We are working to not only expand the number of available places, but also to extend the hours of reception, ensuring that each person admitted receives a personalized assistance plan."

The councilor complains: "The previous system for all emergency interventions was not coordinated by the administration, with partial responses carried out solely by the Street Unit Service, operating on behalf of the Municipality. We have created an institutional network of associations that provide various services to support the homeless in the city, with the goal of constantly monitoring interventions and ensuring 24-hour contact with the administration for situations requiring immediate and non-deferrable interventions."

Puddu also adds that "we have created a working group with various sectors of the administration—local police, sanitation, and social policies—which , in coordination with the mental health district, is working across the city to provide care to the many who sleep on the streets and risk dying from the cold."
