Poetry transformed into theatrical material, in the encounter with language, song, and music, embodied through body, voice, and movement: the artistic residency project " Creature – A Journey Through the Poems of Antonella Anedda and Anna Cristina Serra ," promoted by La Fabbrica Illuminata and conceived by Elena Pau , returns to Portoscuso until November 16. This second edition is part of a three-year program , with the Tonnara Su Pranu serving as the setting for an experience of training, research, and scenic creation, hosting artists Vittoria Nicita , Rita Scanu , and Licia Sulas , theater and music professionals and specialists in Sardinian language and costume design, as well as local associations and organizations.
A work that starts from the poetic production of the great Sardinian authors Anna Cristina Serra and Antonella Anedda , to explore the expressive possibilities of the word in relation to other artistic languages . And the three protagonists of this 2026 are involved in a program divided into two segments , each dedicated to one of the two poets: the first phase begins today and focuses on the texts of Serra, to conclude on Sunday 8th with the stage performance of " Bentu de Mari " directed by Salima Balzerani , while the second is devoted to the verses of Anedda from 9th to 15th November , culminating with the show " Bentu Fridu " directed by Miana Merisi .
The two plays are also enriched by the musical contributions of Anna Lisa Mameli and Corrado Aragoni (of OfficinAcustica ) and will be performed at the Sala Corpus della Tonnara, with free admission , in an experience open to the community. Workshops are also scheduled: during the first week, Balzerani will direct the acting workshop , while in the second week, the same role will be covered by Merisi. Furthermore, the theatrical costume design masterclass will be entrusted to Marco Nateri , with the contribution of assistant costume designer Patrizia Etzi , while the specialized Sardinian tutoring will be provided by Laura Medda .
At its core is the comparison between two different poetic experiences , united however by a profound connection with the island, with individual and collective memory, and with the communicative capacity of language. On the one hand, the work " Luna cantadora " by Anna Cristina Serra – originally from San Basilio, written in Sardinian, which she herself translated into Italian, and with a profound attention to the musicality of her verses – and on the other, the volume " Salva con nome " by Antonella Anedda – a second-generation Roman with ties to Sardinia thanks to family roots, which also live on at an idiomatic level in some of her compositions – become the foundation for initiating research into the relationship between Italian and Sardinian , not only from a literary perspective but also from a sonic, rhythmic, and interpretative one. And this is not by adapting an existing dramatic work for the stage, but by constructing a new expressive form drawn from the poetic act .
The three artists selected this year have been entrusted with the entire creative process , offering them the opportunity to explore other artistic methodologies and develop skills in acting, poetic interpretation, singing, stage movement, and music. This active participation is possible thanks to the collaboration of Qibu , Associazione Viamentana Teatro , and Compagnia B , who maintain professional relationships with the young performers and their tutors. The project aims to offer an opportunity for personal and professional growth , both in the acquisition of specific techniques and in experimenting with the creative process, encouraging generational change in the theater sector.
With the curtain falling on Monday 16th , on the day dedicated to the comparison and evaluation of the experience thus completed, the project is being carried out within the framework of the Artists' Residencies in the Territories programme, receiving the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Region and enjoying the contribution of the cultural associations Baa Ba' and Arveschida .
