The first thing he wants to say is thank you. «From the bottom of my heart to the girls who intervened in my defense, because apparently they heard the offensive words that were addressed to me. At that moment, when they were attacked, I didn't notice anything. I found out the next day that one of them had also ended up in hospital, and I'm very sorry for what happened."

The lack of respect

The speaker is Franco Muscas, the twenty-year-old who last Sunday, despite himself, found himself involved in the attack that took place against two student sisters outside a club in the Quarto section of Poetto. An incident for which investigations are still ongoing. One of the two young women even ended up in hospital with some broken ribs. «I want to point out that I don't feel like a victim of bullying», explains Franco Muscas, «but I didn't like the tone and the way in which those guys turned to me." It all started, he says, «while I was calmly chatting with a boy who was with other friends. One of them was looking at me in a way that I didn't like and mocked me for my clothing." That evening, «I was wearing a short skirt and a top. The point is that I dress as I like: I don't have to answer to anyone and no one should allow themselves to question my person." For this reason, "I reacted and told him that he shouldn't allow himself to address me in that way." At that point the situation degenerated. "I lost my balance and one of them was ready to kick me."

The logic of the herd

The two girls intervened at that moment. «They told me that they intervened because they saw the situation that had been created. They noticed that I had lost my balance and was about to fall. They came to my rescue, even though I didn't know them. We only said hello because I'm known on Tik Tok and they had seen me there anyway."

Intolerance

Hence the beating, which Franco did not witness. «They themselves told me that they were beaten, grabbed by the hair and insulted. I didn't see the scene, I read it the next day on social media and I tracked them down to thank them." In light of all this, however, "I want to clarify that I don't let anyone push me around." Because Franco Muscas is a boy who goes his own way, without fear. «I am gay and I live my life without being accountable to anyone. Unfortunately, ignorance will reign forever and this is why these episodes of intolerance occur. But they don't put me down and they don't offend me."

Self-esteem exercises

Franco knows very well that this is not the case for everyone. «I think of those who are perhaps weaker and suffer if they are offended by the way they dress or otherwise. Here, to those who find themselves in this situation, I want to say that you have to let everything slide over you, that everyone must respect themselves and never deprive themselves of doing what they want, obviously without disrespecting others." Just as everyone should be able to go to the Poetto clubs to have fun without being involved in violent episodes. «I go to clubs, both in Cagliari and Quartu, because I really like to have fun and I would like to be able to have the freedom to do so without anyone allowing themselves to offend me». Now the most important thing "is that the girl who suffered the worst can recover as soon as possible and forget this bad episode." Franco Muscas, meanwhile, thanked her, and now continues to go straight on his path, studying to cultivate a dream. "I want to be a hairdresser."
