Even in Sardinia, phenomena linked to what's known as overtourism are beginning to emerge—that is, an excess of vacationers flocking to the most sought-after resorts. And the Sardinian summer sees numerous reports of this in the most popular coastal areas, from San Teodoro to Villasimius, from Olbia to Cagliari. Not to mention the roads, where traffic increases dramatically during the beach season.

This data is clearly reflected in the increase in accidents, which are rising significantly, especially if the roads are full of road closures, construction sites, and roadworks. To reduce risks, therefore, we should try to reduce roadworks, at least during peak traffic periods, along the island's main arteries, where they create significant problems for motorists, with long queues and slowdowns.

The Region, therefore, also at the urging of the Unione Sarda, decided to ask ANAS for clarification on the work progress during these summer months, to determine whether, as has happened in past years, sections of major roads will be reopened, thus avoiding traffic jams and problems. The resulting picture can be described as mixed, in the sense that some lanes will be reopened to traffic, while others will only see temporary work halts, but the disruption will continue.

The complete map is available in L'Unione Sarda on newsstands, on the app, and in the digital edition.
