The political reactions were not long in coming after the counting of ballots for the Democratic Party primaries in Quartu Sant'Elena was postponed until tomorrow , the municipality which has now become a real "case".

Giuseppina Demurtas, city secretary of the party, intervenes on the matter: «After repeated reports on the presence at and near polling stations of various municipal councilors who are part of the majority in government of the city, representatives of the administration and representatives of the Quartese centre-right, who accompanied numerous electricians and voters to the polling stations – he explains -, the presidents and secretaries of the polling stations, having heard the regional guarantee commission, decided to freeze the count and to postpone the decision on the Quartese vote to the same commission for the appropriate decisions . In any case, we will take note of the Commission's decisions».

The primaries, he recalls, «have been and remain an instrument of openness to the outside, a way to involve and actively involve female electorates and voters who feel part of the democratic and progressive community. The presence at the polling stations and the organized vote by members of other movements or parties who are part of an opposing political alignment , and who in our city support an administration against which the PD is in opposition, give rise to a serious suspicion of pollution that risks ruining an important moment in the life of a party such as the choice of the regional secretary», concludes the secretary.

Bad moods also come from the electoral committee of one of the two candidates, Giuseppe Meloni (the other is Piero Comandini): " Taking away an electoral urn from a polling station is juridically, as well as politically, unacceptable, and it is incredible that the regional commission for the congress (as the Prefecture would do by analogy) did not proceed yesterday evening with the counting and now even postpones it until Tuesday afternoon ", reads a note.

" We have written to the national congress commission to proceed without further delay with the counting - clarifies the committee's spokesman, Alessandro Cossu -. The counting must be done without hesitation, after which all the checks and controls can be carried out as they are done in ordinary elections". “Our conviction is that primaries should not be thrown overboard when they don't go as one likes and they shouldn't question themselves to obtain a victory - adds Cossu -. On the contrary, they must be protected and preserved as a founding value of the Democratic Party".

The other popular wing of the party then intervenes in the case, the one that had stayed out of the competition after the choice of Meloni as a candidate for the secretariat in place of the young Federico Porcu. Cesare Moriconi, regional councilor, speaks in a note sent by the Aldo Moro Study Centre. “ We are sorry to note that the limits beyond which it is not allowed to go beyond, even in a highly competitive electoral contest like this one – underlines in a statement sent by the Aldo Moro Study Center -. Clear positions, understandable lines and a strong political message were expected from the congress of the Sardinian Democratic Party. The reasons that had prompted us to abstain related precisely to the concern that the right conditions had not been created for a congress capable of responding to the enormous expectations of change and renewal promised».
