Finally home, after three nightmarish months spent struggling clinging with all her strength to life. Gaia Andreuccetti , 20 years old overwhelmed by a car while crossing Viale Marconi at the exit from the disco at dawn on 12 February , returned to her Selargius , together with her father Francesco, mother Veronica Ortu, her brother and little sisters. "The rehabilitation process will still be long and hard, but now there is only the happiness of having her back at home," says her mother, moved a few hours after her discharge from the Monserrato Polyclinic .

History

For Gaia it had to be a carefree evening to celebrate the first step towards the return to normality, with the reopening of the discos after months of closure due to Covid. One Friday night to finally dance, always with her inseparable friend Giulia . Instead that evening turned into a nightmare, for them and their families. "It was a shock to know about the accident, even more to understand that my daughter was seriously injured," recalls mom Veronica. The two friends were returning home that morning, headed for the bus stop that would take them to Selargius and Quartu . They were crossing Viale Marconi in a dimly lit stretch, on the pedestrian crossing, while a Renault, driven by a 62-year-old from Quartu, headed for the San Benedetto market, overwhelmed them as they crossed the street . Rescue was immediate, then the rush to hospitals in desperate conditions . Both in a coma, they woke up at different times . The first was Gaia Andreuccetti, a week after the accident, who thanked everyone by posting a photo of her from the hospital bed on Facebook: «I woke up and I'm slowly recovering. Thanks to those who were close to me and to those who prayed for me ”. Then her friend Giulia, out of danger two months after the accident .

The ascent

In recent months, the university hospital has been the second home of the Selargina girl. "They pampered her as if she were in the family," says the mother. This is also confirmed by their lawyer, Loredana Laconi, alongside the Andreuccetti family in this difficult affair. «Doctors and nurses worked a miracle», comments the lawyer, «his condition was really critical. But thanks to the excellent medical care, smiles and affection of nurses, doctors and specialists, Gaia was able to overcome the worst and return home to her loved ones. Thanks also to the strength he has shown in all this time spent in the hospital ».

On Monday afternoon the return home, almost unexpected . "Few knew it, it was an indescribable emotion to see her sitting on the sofa again," says mother Veronica, who in all these months has never lost hope of having her daughter back at home, out of danger and surrounded by the love of the whole family. The first to welcome her grandmother, together with brothers and sisters . Then the embrace of the girl with one of the little sisters and shared on social networks by the mother with a lot of comment: " When emotion and happiness make your heart explode ", followed by words of affection from hundreds of people.

Now rehabilitation must continue , always under control until it is autonomous again. "He can't wait to take back his life, his work, his friends, his outings," says Veronica Ortu. "It will take patience, and a lot of strength to tackle this path too, but the courage and determination are certainly not lacking in Gaia".
