The brutal and bloody attack that took place on 11 May 2022 in via Petta , in Olbia , is contained in a video projected this morning in the courtroom of the Court of Assizes of Sassari where the trial of Davide Iannelli , the 48-year-old of accused of having burned alive his neighbor and rival, Toni Cozzolino, 49, from Olbia, who died in hospital ten days after being hospitalized due to the severe burns suffered.

The public prosecutor charges Iannelli , companion of Rosa Bechere, the woman who has been missing for months from Olbia and whose violent death is suspected, of premeditated murder aggravated by cruelty. In the footage taken from a surveillance camera of a condominium in via Petta, facing the point where the tragedy took place, we see the defendant getting out of a car, Cozzolino approaches him, then turns abruptly in an attempt to fleeing, trips on the curb and falls to the ground. At this point Iannelli is on him: first he douses him with petrol and then sets him on fire .

The Court, presided over by judge Massimo Zaniboni, then listened to the testimony of five witnesses, agents of the Olbia police station who intervened in via Petta on 11 March last year after the operations center had received the request for help.

Answering the questions of the prosecutor Daniele Rosa, of the civil party lawyers Giampaolo Murrighile and Antonio Fois, and of the defense, Abele and Cristina Cherchi, the five relived those dramatic moments: the rescue of the injured, the first investigative activities on the spot, the arrival of Iannelli at the police station who reports himself: "I think I screwed up," he said to the supervisor as the first rescuers arrived in via Petta.

The next hearing has been set for July 18 to hear other witnesses.
