A forty-six-year-old man from Campidano Oristanese has tested positive for West Nile virus . This is the eighth human case of West Nile virus diagnosed in the province of Oristano in 2025.
The man, who emigrated but came to Sardinia to participate in a sporting event , is hospitalized in the Neurology department of the San Martino Hospital in Oristano and is in good condition. In recent weeks, three people over seventy, three over sixty-five, and one over ninety tested positive for the virus. Of these seven infected, five are still hospitalized in various hospitals, while two have been discharged and returned home.
The information campaign, launched in April with the distribution of posters and brochures to healthcare facilities, general practitioners, and pharmacies, has been strengthened in recent days. A new bilingual poster has been distributed to municipal administrations, illustrating the disease's transmission system and providing a series of useful tips for avoiding infection.
