Olbia murder: Davide Iannelli on trial for killing his neighbor by setting him on fire

The investigating judge of Tempio Pausania Caterina Interlandi has committed Davide Iannelli to trial, accused of dousing his neighbor Antonio Cozzolino with flammable liquid, and then setting him on fire, causing his death after 9 days of agony in hospital .
The charge he will have to answer is that of premeditated murder, aggravated by the brutality.
The fact took place in Olbia, in March 2022.
The lawyer who defends Iannelli – Abele Cherchi – disputed the request of the prosecutor, de facto claiming the legitimate defense of the suspect from an attempted assault.
Giampaolo Murrighile, Antonio Fois and Massimo Perra, lawyers of the victim's family members, established as civil parties, instead embraced the thesis of the public prosecution.
The first hearing of the trial, in the Corte di Assise in Sassari, will be held on May 9th.
Davide Iannelli is the husband of Rosa Bechere , the pensioner from Olbia who disappeared last November .
