More than a thousand shovels attack the Sardinian sea.
Offshore wind power: Mayors and committees oppose multinationals' plansPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
According to the projects submitted and if all approved, more than a thousand wind turbines could surround the Sardinian coast. To be precise, 1,078. There would be 1,120 if it weren't for a project on hold for 32 480-megawatt wind turbines in the stretch of water between Bosa and Capo Mannu, in the Oristano province.
An outrage that would undermine ancestral marine balances. The mayors' opposition is unwavering. And the Committees are attacking: seeing enormous rotating spheres on the horizon off Poetto, Capo Caccia, Pittulongu, and the Costa Smeralda would ultimately mean abandoning tourism in the name of an energy transition that only benefits multinationals. Indeed, the risk is that tourists will be attracted to other coasts, to other countries.
The situation – Compared to last summer, the picture of the projects presented is much clearer, especially off the coast of southern Sardinia, where the towers risk creating a massive steel barrier.
Southern Sardinia – Ten projects have been submitted along the coast, primarily in Sulcis, for 440 towers with a total generating capacity of 4,018 megawatts. Simply add up the projects underway. Project Wind Alfa Srl in Portoscuso, 63 wind turbines with a total generating capacity of 945 megawatts; Thalassa Wind, on the southwest coast of the Sardinian Sea, 35 525-megawatt towers; Ichnusa Wind Power Srl, which has already received a positive opinion from the technical commission, 42 504-megawatt wind turbines 35 kilometers off the southwest coast; Sardegna Sud, by Inergia Spa, 66 990-megawatt towers; San Pietro Nord, by Ninfea rinnovabili Srl, 34 510-megawatt towers; San Pietro Sud, by Regolo rinnovabili Srl, 33 504-megawatt towers; preliminary project by Renewable Energies Limited, 55 990-megawatt towers; Del Toro 1 in Sant'Antioco, 24 towers with a total capacity of 292.8 megawatts; Del Toro 2, 24 wind turbines with a total capacity of 292.8 megawatts; and Sardinia South 1, owned by Avenhexicon Srl, 64 towers with a total capacity of 1,600 megawatts.
Cagliari – Even in the Cagliari area, where eight projects have been submitted, the construction of wind turbines is no joke. The Sardinia South 2 project, off Capo Spartivento, by Avenxicon Srl, envisions 30 turbines with a capacity of 750 megawatts; the plan by Repower Renewable Spa calls for a wind farm with 33 wind turbines and 495 megawatts of power off the Sardinia Channel; the Nora energia 1 plan by Nora Ventu Srl between Sant'Antioco and Pula calls for 53 wind turbines with a capacity of 795 megawatts; the Nora energia 2 plan, also by Nora Ventu Srl, plans 40 wind turbines southeast of the Gulf of Cagliari with a capacity of 600 megawatts; the Kersonesus wind farm between Teulada Domus de Maria, Pula, Villa San Pietro, and Sarroch, includes seven 43 megawatt wind turbines; The Nuovo Porto Pino project, in Domus de Maria, Pula, and Sarroch, by Regolo rinnovabili srl, consists of 47 towers and 705 megawatts; the Sardegna 2 project by Renexia spa, in the Sardinia Channel, offers 55 wind turbines and 825 megawatts; and the Sardegna 1 project by Renexia spa offers 37 wind turbines, in the Sardinia Channel, with a capacity of 555 megawatts.
Northern Sardinia – This brings us to Northern Sardinia. In the Alghero area, there are two projects: Mistral, with 32 towers and 480 megawatts of power, and Sardegna North West, with 54 towers and 1,350 megawatts. Then comes Gallura. Four projects are off the Costa Smeralda and beyond: Nurax (33 towers, 462 megawatts of power); Sardinia North East (80 wind turbines, 2,000 megawatts of power); Tibula (65 towers, 965 megawatts of power); and Poseidon (72 towers, 1,008 megawatts of power).
The total – In summary, 24 projects, 1,078 wind turbines, and 17,601 megawatts of power could be completed in Sardinia: enough to warrant, at the very least, a better understanding of the building blocks of the island's future.
