Sardinia is allocating €14.7 million over three years to support the purchase of sanitary towels and other hygiene products for girls up to 18. The majority approved the measure proposed by the Five Star Movement council group at the initiative of regional councilor Lara Serra.
"In this change, out of approximately two billion, we have allocated one billion to healthcare," explains Lara Serra. "We have allocated resources for emergencies but also considered civilized measures that demonstrate our vision of the world."
The resources amount to €2.1 million for 2026 and €6.3 million for each of 2027 and 2028. The target group is approximately 49,836 girls residing in Sardinia up to the age of 18. Each beneficiary will receive an equal annual contribution of between €100 and €126 . The final amount, age bracket, requirements, and access procedures will be established by the Council.
The contribution will not be tied to ISEE (Income-See Indicator) . The choice is to address a necessary and recurring expense, without transforming support of this amount into a procedure tied to family income.
Any resources that remain unused may be allocated to initiatives against gender-based violence .
