Twenty-two and a half years in prison. It is the penalty inflicted on Salvatore Mameli, 68 year old from Maracalagonis accused of the murder of Giuseppe Pintore, 80 year old his fellow countryman and neighbor of the farm killed on 6 March 2020 with two gunshots.

The first instance sentence was pronounced by the president of the Assize Court of Cagliari Tiziana Marogna, after the council chamber following the replies by the prosecutor Emanuele Secci and the defender Stefano Piras.

The prosecution had asked for 26 years of imprisonment, granting generic extenuating circumstances and not contesting the premeditation of the crime.

The judges accepted the prosecutor's reconstruction but reduced the sentence against the pensioner, linked to the hearing in streaming from the Uta prison.

The reports had shown that Pintore had been killed by the Smith & Wesson legally detained by the defendant, seized from his home later along with four 7.65 caliber bullets.

The murder took place - according to what was reconstructed by the Prosecutor's Office - to steal from the elderly the little money he kept in his wallet, which was never found.
