White balloons also flew into the sky to greet Gabriele Loi , the assistant cook of Maracalagonis who drowned on Tuesday afternoon in the sea of Villasimius .
At the funeral of the young man, who was just 26 years old, many came, boys, his friends, those of his parents who clung to family members devastated by grief .
The procession arrived at the cemetery under a light rain, a flood of umbrellas, so much emotion. The words of the celebrant of the funeral rite echoed in the parish church of Maracalagonis, with many people who participated in the rite from the square, despite the rain .
Many people gathered around the boy's parents, a few words of comfort, many tears and then, all together, to the cemetery for the burial of the body.
A dream broken too soon: as soon as Gabriele graduated from the Monserrato hotel school, he didn't hesitate to gain experience even in hotels in northern Italy and France. « He was in love with this job – said his father -: I have always supported him and I will continue to be a cook also in his memory ».
Gabriele Loi was born in Cagliari , but lived with his family in Maracalagonis . From 7 May he worked as assistant cook in a resort in Villasimius together with his father, a cook .
The young man went into the water for a swim before starting the evening shift at the residence. It was his friends who noticed him in difficulty, who jumped into the water without being able to reach him . It was some German tourists who reached him and took him to the beach.
All subsequent rescue attempts were useless .
A tragedy and now a family devastated by grief who watched Gabriele for three days in the morgue of the Sinnai cemetery, until the funeral this afternoon.
