A meeting with the mayor of Cagliari today. A torchlight procession on April 11. An investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office reopened, with the hypothesis of murder . Thirty years later something is moving around Manuela Murgia, the young woman who in February 1995, at the age of sixteen, was found lifeless in the middle of the Tuvixeddu canyon. Suicide: this was the verdict of the investigations that were quickly shelved then.
The family never believed it. And since they came into possession of all the documents, they have moved heaven and earth to demand truth and justice. A new expert report has hypothesized the cause of death: Manuela could have been hit by a car, the day she disappeared, and her body abandoned in an area then frequented only by drug addicts. The story bounced from newspapers to TV, until the turning point in Piazza Repubblica, where work is now underway to understand who could have killed the woman who the news at the time had called a suburban Cinderella.
Those who loved Manuela want to keep the attention high. This morning the family met with the mayor Massimo Zedda, "a person of great sensitivity and attention. We want to thank him sincerely for his hospitality, for the kindness with which he welcomed us and for the precious time he dedicated to us. A special thanks" the relatives continue, "also for the closeness shown to our sister Manuela Murgia and her story, which deserves to be listened to, respected and committed. Knowing that we can count on an attentive and human institution gives us confidence and hope for everything that will follow".
But the mobilization does not stop there: «On Friday, April 11, in Cagliari, we will meet for a torchlight procession. United in memory of Manuela, we will retrace her last steps with hearts full of affection and hope. Departure at 6:30 pm from via Barigadu». And from there to the canyon: the family asks for participation. To have truth and justice.
