In Mandas, a tough line is being taken against littering. Several fines have been issued in recent days, and checks will continue with widespread inspections in the countryside and town, involving the Carabinieri, Forestry Corps, and Municipal Police.
"On the one hand, I understand that it's unpleasant to receive fines and the associated administrative and criminal penalties for littering," says Mayor Umberto Oppus . "But, given the need to protect the environment, our town, and the countryside, we continue to report and conduct widespread inspections."
The municipal administration has already gathered evidence to identify some of the perpetrators. At the end of July, bags containing waste, documents, and even copies of airline tickets to Egypt were found in the countryside. The material was handed over to the Carabinieri.
The problem also concerns small pieces of waste left along rural roads: bottles, cans, and plastic containers. "We need the cooperation of those who travel to the countryside for work or pleasure to avoid abandoning glass or plastic bottles, cans, and other items," Oppus emphasizes.
The campaign against waste dumping continues with inspections and fines. The goal, the Municipality reiterates, is to protect the environment and prevent the countryside from becoming open-air landfills.
