First, a guest was attacked in the parking lot of the San Sperate shopping center, then the riot inside the facility . It was a tense evening Saturday night at the Monastir Reception Center and Hotspot, where news of the beating of a foreigner by a group of Sestu residents sparked a migrant protest.

It all began around 10:00 PM, when the young foreign citizen returned to the facility with his face covered in blood. The situation escalated within minutes: residents began throwing rocks at the booth at the CAS entrance and entered the offices, where they smashed doors, windows, and computers. This latest incident rekindles concerns about the tense atmosphere surrounding the facility.

Security

According to the Monastir administration, the situation cannot be further underestimated. "We are once again calling on the state to intervene by strengthening the police presence in the area. Therefore, last Friday, we formally requested the Police Headquarters to reinstate and strengthen the mobile police presence in the town," said Mayor Paola Ugas.

An institutional action

There is also great concern in Sestu, where Mayor Michele Cossa emphasizes the need for joint institutional action. "What is happening around the Monastir Center continues to cause great concern. Joint and immediate institutional action is needed before the situation deteriorates further," the mayor states. "Sestu, Monastir, and the surrounding municipalities cannot be left alone. A coordinated intervention by the Prefecture, law enforcement, and the relevant authorities is needed. The priority is to restore safety and serenity, before fear and exasperation lead to even more serious consequences."
