Fabio Fois has nothing to do with the ambush and the alleged motive for the theft of two donkeys is not enough to justify an almost double murder.

The lawyer Marcello Caddori held a plea of almost six hours before the Court of Assizes of Cagliari to try to prove that his client, the 57-year-old from Girasole, has nothing to do with the murder of Fabio Longoni in the countryside of Villagrande Strisaili and with the attempted murder of Daniele Conigiu .

Fois is accused of killing Longoni on 22 November 2017 for a revenge for the theft of two donkeys the previous year and admitted by Daniele Conigiu, who survived the ambush and was hit in the leg by a bullet. In the last hearing, prosecutor Biagio Mazzeo formulated the request for a life sentence .

"First of all, my client never knew that his donkeys had been stolen - he clarified - or that Conigiu and Longoni had stolen them. Secondly, if we were to believe the statements of the offended party to be credible, even if they differ from each other. from the others and denied by the texts heard immediately, Fabio Fois would have gone to carry out a double murder taking the phone with him . The three phone calls made by my client 13 minutes after the ambush are in a place incompatible with both the place of the crime that with that where the car was abandoned by the killer ".

The defender then spoke of the "queen track", linked to internal disputes at the funeral home where Longoni worked . "In the end that track was abandoned for no reason - concluded Caddori - only for a feeling of Conigiu who, without real elements, thought that it could be the Fois, for the theft of the donkeys. Based on these sensations, my client could to be condemned. But sentences are written in the indicative, affirming certainties ".

The sentence is expected on 13 July .
