The entire community of Decimomannu is praying these days for Marco Meloni, 21, who fell into a coma following an asthma attack that left his brain deprived of oxygen for about 10 minutes, leading him into a state of deep unconsciousness. Marco does not respond to stimuli and cannot wake up.

No information is leaking from the intensive care unit of the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari: lips are tight for a clinical picture that immediately appeared "serious and desperate".

The crisis

Sunday morning Marco was at his aunt's house in San Sperate. As a child he began to suffer from asthma, a chronic disease of the airways that causes a narrowing of the bronchi and can cause breathing difficulties, coughing and chest tightness. The latest attack was stronger than usual. It didn't help that Marco had installed the "My Asthma" application on his cell phone, which allows you to track and manage your asthma, monitor air temperature, pollution and pollen levels as well as record attacks and symptoms with data and the use of inhalers.

Alerted immediately, the 118 doctors arrived after a few minutes. The lightning-fast intervention, the adrenaline injection and the resuscitation were not enough to improve his situation. So Marco was transported by helicopter to Brotzu, where he has been hospitalized since Sunday.

«Come on Marco»

In Decimo everyone loves the young man, described as sunny, kind and polite, a great motorcycle enthusiast. He is also highly regarded in the workplace: at the Santa Greca festival everyone saw him struggling with sandwiches and beers in the “Sa mellu cosa” inn, while in recent months he has been hired by a local gardening company.

The tension in the village increases with the hours. In the hospital, every day, dozens of family members, friends and acquaintances approach as a testimony of the affection and esteem that Marco enjoys. And on social media there are hundreds of messages that encourage him to recover: «Come on, we are all with you».

"With deep sympathy towards Marco and his family," announced Mayor Monica Cadeddu, the municipal administration has decided to cancel, "in a moment as delicate as it is painful for the entire community," a musical event scheduled for Saturday, April 12, "Basswood".
