A revolution is coming for traffic in Decimomannu, but the shopkeepers are not having it and are on a war footing. Last February 14, the Municipality presented a plan that concerns almost all the neighborhoods and many main roads, first and foremost Via Nazionale. Which, according to the project, will soon become one-way and passable only by those coming from Assemini: cars arriving from the SS 196, at the Santa Greca roundabout, would no longer be able to continue but would be forced to turn left towards the 130 or right onto Via Repubblica. The start is expected to be quick, with the Municipality preparing the signage. But for the shopkeepers the negative repercussions on their work would be enormous.

"We ask that this solution be delayed," is the request of Stefania Incani, owner of a bar on Via Nazionale. A street where the shopkeepers, 20 in all, are against the revolution en masse: " This way, cars are prevented from passing through state highway 196 and 130: for us, all their related businesses would disappear . Those arriving from Villasor or Serramanna will turn directly onto 130 and skip it, with obvious problems. We have already reported to the Municipality, in a recent meeting, that we are against it: the mayor continues to say that it is an experimental phase, but once public money is invested, it is almost impossible for it not to become permanent. And for us, it would be a great loss."

The reasons given by the Municipality of Decimo are related to safety. But this explanation does not convince the merchants: " Via Nazionale is a street where people already travel at high speeds, with a one-way system the situation would worsen ", continues Incani. Among the problems considered main by the Municipality are those of the passage of buses in two-way traffic: "But the sidewalks and the roadway are wide enough, we do not understand the need to implement such a revolution so quickly".

The 20 businesses have given their hypotheses, which have so far been discarded by the administration: «The project was presented ready, without us even being consulted. It was created without listening to our opinions, or those of others», the bitterness of the shopkeeper. «One of our requests is to try the one-way system only for heavy vehicles, leaving two-way traffic for cars. Then put up some bollards, which would solve the safety problems for pedestrians and motorists. We ask that an experiment be started in this direction, which would have advantages for everyone: it would allow us not to lose a very important part of our clientele ».
