Not an unexpected and unpredictable event that led to the closure to traffic of via Porcell, in the center of Cagliari : a road that connects the lower part of the historic center (Stampace) with Castello, of vital importance for the sustainability of traffic, above all on weekends and in view of the Christmas holidays.

Mayor Paolo Truzzu was forced to adopt the decision because a report from the University revealed the instability of the perimeter wall of the building that houses the Biomedical Sciences department: the vibrations caused by the passage of vehicles (buses also pass nearby ) would have risked making the structure surrender.

The wall is collapsing under the pressure of the roots of an age-old ficus. And not from today.

The proof comes from the historical series of Google Street View, which allows you to virtually go back in time. The car that records all the roads in the world had also passed through via Porcell in 2008. And even then you could see a deep crack right at the point that led to Mayor Truzzu's ordinance. Same situation in the following years. In the Athenaeum it was known for some time that that wall was unsafe: nothing has been done.

The Municipality has taken measures: now you go up from via Anfiteatro and, to enter Castello from via dei Genovesi, you can go through via Fiume, which can be traveled downhill for those arriving from viale Buoncammino. It should be a temporary solution. Should.
