Inadequate skills, at the end of high school, both in Italian and in mathematics , for a large part of the students: this is the picture that emerges from the Invalsi report presented this afternoon in Rome , and which for the Island , from middle school to high school consistently at the bottom of the national rankings , highlights particularly alarming data.
In Italian, just over forty percent of those taking the final exams on the island achieve a passing grade , a figure that stands at 42% , down eight percentage points from the previous year. And in mathematics, young Sardinians do even worse: only one in three achieves the expected results (30%) , the worst national figure, on par with Sicily.
However, things are not going any better for English: at the end of the second cycle of education, writing skills are achieved by 42% of students , in the listening tests by 34% , and in this case too , both figures mark a decline compared to last year .
Results are certainly not stellar even in middle school: in eighth grade, only 51% of students in Sardinia achieve the required goals in Italian , while the percentage drops to 42% in math . In English, the percentages achieving the required goals are 73% in written English and 56% in oral English, although still at the bottom of the national rankings.
