The controversy continues over the project for the new stadium in Cagliari, which should be built on the site of the Sant'Elia. City councilors Alessandra Zedda and Ferdinando Secchi, Anima di Sardegna – Lega, with the regional councilor of the Lega Alessandro Sorgia, go on the attack: «During the last hearing of the sports councilor of the Municipality of Cagliari», the note from Zedda and Secchi, «a delay emerged on the part of the Region and specifically of the president who apparently has not shown any interest in the city of Cagliari and does not intend to give answers to the Cagliari fans in particular but to all of sporting Sardinia in general. All this seems very strange, especially because in June 2024 Cagliari Calcio had sent the requested documentation to the Municipality of Cagliari hoping that the decision-making conference of services that the Regional Environmental Assessment Service could be convened in August while instead it was postponed to October with a further request for documentation ».

The Sardinia Region, says regional councilor Alessandro Sorgia, «had guaranteed at the end of the meeting that it would quickly send the analytical minutes of the session with the necessary additions for the procedure for the release of the single regional provision on environmental matters (Paur) but still, after more than forty days, it has not arrived . If these times had been respected, the international tender could have started in February and in June 2025 it would have been possible to begin demolishing the Sant'Elia and building the new stadium. Why these delays?»

Sorgia continues: « The most serious thing is that President Todde does not make it known whether the 50 million euros allocated by the previous Board are still available and even worse, she has not yet given a signal on the restart of the program agreement to be confirmed or revised». In recent weeks there have been meetings between Cagliari Calcio and the Municipality, but the process is proceeding very slowly. And by October 2026, the FIGC will have to deliver to UEFA the list of venues for the 2032 European Championships : Cagliari is in the running, but will only be able to compete if the new stadium becomes a reality.
