The community mourns Benigno Locci, known to all as Tziu Boninu , who passed away at the age of 102. Born in Escalaplano on November 27, 1923, he would have turned 103 this fall.

He had spent almost his entire life in the village, to which he was deeply attached. Together with his wife Caterina, he had been an entrepreneur and owner of a historic trattoria-inn, which over the years had become a landmark for many Escalaplane residents.

Theirs was also a very long marriage: when Benigno turned 100, in November 2023, the couple had already shared 76 years together. Their union produced three children, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Tziu Boninu's passing comes as Escalaplano has once again celebrated the longevity of its residents. On August 1st, Giulia Porcedda , the town's longtime seamstress, turned 103. On July 11th, Giulia Demontis , known to all as Grandma Giulietta, celebrated her centenary, surrounded by her children, ten grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

With Tziu Boninu, one of the town's longest-serving citizens and a witness to over a century of history, work, and community life has passed away. In these hours, Escalaplano gathers around his wife Caterina and the entire family.
