The fire, the downpour. And now even the water contaminated by mud and ash. These are difficult days for the community of Bono, which since Saturday has been dealing with the fury of the elements and the consequences of man's criminal actions.

On Saturday, a large, malicious fire destroyed the Monte Rasu forest. Seven aircraft were needed to extinguish the flames and limit the damage. The following day, Sunday, a violent storm hit the area, bringing sixty millimeters of rain in just over an hour. The force of the water carried a large amount of debris that also flooded the road connecting the village to Bottidda. The mud was black with ash, drifting down from the mountain.

More bad news today, announced by Mayor Michele Solinas: "Ash has infiltrated the tanks that supply the water mains. Therefore, in some areas of the town, water may reach homes cloudy and with a distinct smell of ash."

Abbanoa technicians, the mayor announced, "have already been working since this morning to empty and clean the affected tanks. Residents in the affected areas (Santa Caterina - Uschi) are advised not to use the water for drinking purposes until further notice and, in any case, until the water is completely clear and odor-free again."
