In the enchantment of Sardinia, where spirituality embraces traditions, the eighth edition of the Cammino di San Saturnino begins. From Thursday 24th until 30th October, the events become a bridge that unites Cagliari and the centers of the Island, offering believers and visitors the opportunity to rediscover the roots of a thousand-year-old tradition.
Promoted by the Athanatos association in collaboration with the local Dioceses and the Regional Directorate of Museums of Sardinia, the Walk celebrates the patron saint of Cagliari and Isili, a symbol of identity and spirituality.
The ceremony of dressing the simulacrum of the Saint will kick off six days full of events and rituals. The event has already had a significant prologue on September 28, with the extraordinary opening of the Basilica of San Saturnino in Cagliari. During the route, which will pass through 13 municipalities, each stop will offer the opportunity to immerse yourself in local traditions. From Ozieri, with a visit to the Diocesan Museum, to Benetutti, where a mural in honor of the Saint will be inaugurated, participants will live authentic experiences.
In Gergei, the twinning with “Saboris Antigus” will bring traditional dances and music, while in Isili there will be a 30-kilometer cycle-pedal race, culminating in a procession towards Lake San Sebastiano. A new feature this year will be the stop in Quartu, where on October 29 a Mass will be held in the Basilica of Sant'Elena.
The Walk will end on October 30 with a solemn celebration, which will bring together the faithful in a moment of profound devotion. The Mass, officiated by the Archbishop of Cagliari, Giuseppe Baturi, will be preceded by a suggestive procession through the historic center. Daniela Noli, president of the Athanatos Association, underlines the importance of this event to reconnect the ties between cities and villages, promoting sustainable and responsible cultural tourism, capable of enhancing the traditions and beauty of the Sardinian hinterland.
