At half past eight in the morning, an hour and a half before the start of the Open Day, the queue to get the passport started from via Tuveri and went around the police headquarters in via Amat.

This morning in Cagliari there were a thousand people who had also arrived from other provinces to try to obtain the precious document . Many lined up from 4 in the morning: by 8.30 the Police Headquarters had already sold out of the 350 numbers that were scheduled for today . Inevitable, therefore, the stomach aches of those who stayed out and, at that point, were diverted to another line for a new appointment in the coming weeks.
The problem of passports, as we know, has been going on for months throughout Italy, and the effort of the Cagliari Police Headquarters is enormous in trying to solve the problem : the offices have reinforced their staff, lengthened the hours, organized extraordinary openings, such as those of today, which given the amount of people in line will continue in the coming weeks (with dates and methods yet to be established).
The commissioner of Cagliari, Paolo Rossi, interviewed by Andrea Sechi for the Videolina news, explains that « given that we cannot take on more requests than we can process , on this Open day we have planned to collect a total of 300-350. I stress, however, that the 350 numbers we have given do not correspond to 350 passports, because each number corresponds to a family unit. And there are also families of 5 people, so in the end today procedures are being carried out for 800-900 passports".

As mentioned, those who remained outside this line were "redirected" to a separate line (at least another 400 people). The Police Headquarters took data and names and then contacted them again in the next few days (also in view of a new Open Day). "Emergency is always guaranteed," the commissioner still assures. And he concludes: "The passport will be issued to everyone, no one will be left on foot".
