Pula, plastic will be stored in Isili: "The cost of the Tari will increase."

Plastic waste from Pula and other centers in the Nora-Bithia Union of Municipalities will be sent to Isili, a temporary solution that solves the problem only temporarily.

The emergency arose in recent days after the suspension of plastic packaging collection in the municipalities served by the Gesenu company, forcing local administrators to request immediate intervention from the Region.

The mayor of Pula, Walter Cabasino , sent a communication to the prefect Paola Dessì, to the president of the Region Alessandra Todde, to the regional councilor for Environmental Protection Rosanna Laconi and, for information, to the regional councilor for Tourism Franco Cuccureddu, asking for attention and rapid intervention to address the emergency.

"I have requested immediate intervention from the authorities because this situation risks creating significant inconvenience for both residents and the many tourists in the area at this time of year," says Cabasino. "While waiting for the So.Ma.Ricicla plant in the Macchiareddu industrial area, where Gesenu delivers its plastic, to resume normal operations, Isili can only be considered a makeshift solution, given that it will only be able to collect material from the Nora-Bithia Union of Municipalities for a short time."

The decision taken by Gesenu in recent days is linked to the serious crisis affecting the national plastic recycling sector , which has led to a temporary halt in deliveries. This nationwide problem has forced local authorities to take action.

Cabasino analyzes the situation and explains how disposing of plastic in Isili instead of Macchiareddu will inevitably increase the cost of the TARI (waste tax) : "By increasing fuel costs for vehicles forced to travel many more kilometers than usual, plastic disposal costs will rise. The main problem is that at present, it's impossible to say when the So.Ma.Ricicla plant will be operational again, nor—at the same time—how long the Isili plant will be able to collect waste from Pula, Villa San Pietro, Domus de Maria, and Teulada. The fact that this exploded in the middle of summer makes everything more difficult: not having a place to dispose of plastic would create not only a decorum problem, but also a health and hygiene problem, furthermore creating hardship for families who live in small apartments and don't have gardens."
