Sardinia divided in two by bad weather, one half blocked by snow, the other whipped by strong winds .

And the wave that is hitting the island does not subside. Snow expected above 500 meters with ice formation on the road surface until Sunday morning . The civil protection alert for hydrogeological risk on Gallura, Flumendosa-Flumineddu, Campidano, Iglesiente, Montevecchio Pischinappiu, Tirso and Logudoro has been extended until 3pm on Saturday .

Several villages in Barbagia woke up under the snow and remained completely isolated this morning starting at 6. The most critical situation in Desulo, where the snowflakes have come down in abundance: the electricity has gone out and also all the telephone lines, fixed and furniture . Bakeries had to throw out the dough. Same thing happened last year, when a heavy snowfall caused a 36-hour blackout.

Other municipalities are also isolated: blackouts and intermittent telephone lines also in Tonara, Belvì, Gadoni, Aritzo . Enel technicians, alerted by the mayors, intervened in the primary substation of Aritzo which supplies electricity to all nearby towns. The electricity was out for over twelve hours. Electricity was restored in Gadoni in the afternoon, in Aritzo and Belvì in the evening, while special generators are operating in Desulo and Tonara . Generating sets that have arrived or will also arrive in other municipalities where they have been requested, because the emergency could continue in the next few days.

"I can talk on the phone because in the last hour Tim is the only server that is working - said the mayor of Aritzo Paolo Fontana -. Since dawn, together with my colleagues, we have called the Civil Protection and reported the problem . Enel technicians have been working for hours in the country's primary substation to then allow energy to be supplied to other countries as well».

« Electricity comes and goes and the technicians are continuing to work to check if there are also problems on the lines . In any case, we are always in contact with the Civil Protection and we hope to resolve the problem very soon».

«We are above all concerned - adds the mayor of Belvì Maurizio Cadau - for families where there are elderly people, children and disabled people who have not heated up their homes for 12 hours and with these temperatures more serious problems could arise for their health . Let's hope that the generators arrive quickly also because otherwise many entrepreneurs would have to throw away their productions and it would be enormous damage".

Other towns have been isolated due to poor road surfaces and a shortage of snowplows. Fifteen dialysis patients and the specialist doctor who were on their way to Macomer were stuck for hours on the 131 waiting for the snowploughs. In the morning slowdowns due to snow also on State Road 389. Various fines were imposed on careless motorists who got into the car without the right tires.

If Cagliari has closed its city parks due to the strong mistral wind that caused some branches to collapse on cars, snow has also fallen in Northern Sardinia . Several municipalities in Gallura and Sassarese (as well as obviously all those in Barbagia) have ordered the closure of schools .

Several shepherds in difficulty were unable to reach the sheepfolds and in Tonara the weight of the snow caused the roof of a stable to collapse . The firefighters intervened to free the animals, unfortunately they were unable to save a donkey.
