Assemini no longer has its mayor. Sabrina Licheri (M5S) resigned when the natural expiration of her mandate was one year away. And this decision puts an end to nine years (the first 5 with Mario Puddu) of Cinquestelle domination.

"Our administration no longer has the numerical strength necessary to carry out the mandate that should end naturally in June 2023 - writes Licheri on his Facebook profile - five majority directors have decided to turn their backs on the majority, to betray the their mandate, initiating a political crisis in the approval of the municipal budget, blocking any project pending resources. "Now he has twenty days to reflect but it seems that he will hardly think again.

“Further efforts to have the necessary numerical strength - he explains - would not be compatible with our principles, values, with our consistency and with our way of understanding and doing politics. For this reason, for the respect and for the good we want for our country, let's take a step back ".

Assemini was the first municipality administered by the 5 Star Movement in Sardinia, among the first in Italy. Then there were Porto Torres and Carbonia, now both governed by other political forces.
