Siniscola Mayor Gian Luigi Farris, a member of the center-right although not a party member, has come out in support of the Democratic Party candidate for president of the province of Nuoro on a list that purports to be bipartisan. The decision has angered the Brothers of Italy (FdI) and sparked a long-distance controversy between Farris himself and the provincial coordinator of Meloni's party, Maurizio Cadau, mayor of Belvi.

Farris claims the center-right didn't involve him. "Until two weeks before the deadline for submitting lists," he says, "there was total silence. No one contacted me, much less the center-right leadership, the political faction to which I belong and with which I identify. In the absence of any indication, I began a constructive discussion with my fellow mayors in the area to explore a path that would at least guarantee representation for Alta Baronia. The result was consistent with what was done in other areas of the province of Nuoro. For us, the resulting single list was an expression of territorial coherence and consensus, and we appreciated its spirit and content."

Farris's decision didn't sit well with Maurizio Cadau, mayor of Belvì and provincial coordinator of the Brothers of Italy party: "It's incorrect," he says, "to say that the center-right has remained silent. On the contrary, well before Mayor Farris's announcement today, all center-right forces launched an open appeal to all administrators interested in building an alternative path to the one proposed by the Democratic Party in the province of Nuoro." While Farris has decided to do the opposite, "other administrators," Cadau continues, "have decided to accept the center-right's proposal. With them, and with anyone who wants to join this project, we will build a serious, credible, and profoundly alternative political proposal to that of the Democratic Party, as we have always done."
