Not just anger and outrage. The vandalism that defaced the entire perimeter wall of the Monumental Cemetery of San Pietro in Oristano with "no vax" graffiti on Tuesday also left a hefty price tag: the Municipality has pledged approximately €20,000 to restore the area's decor.
The City Hall announced that the cleanup project will begin next week and will include removing the spray paint with specific products, sanitizing, repairing the damaged plaster, and finally repainting with quality materials and anti-scratch treatment to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, police investigations to identify those responsible continue unabated, while on the political front, center-left city councilors, led by Francesco Federico, have submitted a question to Mayor Massimiliano Sanna. The two main issues are the lack of video surveillance systems around the cemetery and the need for the city to join the civil action in the legal proceedings, once the perpetrators are identified, to seek compensation for damages.
The raid, which targeted a property of historical and architectural value protected by the Superintendency, deeply offended the sensibilities of citizens.
While we await the results of the investigation, the tangible evidence remains of an act that, rather than a protest, appears to be a gratuitous insult to the community.
