Nuoro celebrates the world day for health and safety at work with a moment of reflection on the worrying increase in accidents at work and occupational diseases in Sardinia.

In the last year in Sardinia there has been an increase in accidents of 45.7% , in the Nuorese area of 33.5. Mayor Andrea Soddu and his deputy Fabrizio Beccu received in the town hall a delegation of the local and national leaders of the National Association of Disabled at Work (Anmil): the national president Zoello Forni, the general manager Sandro Giovannelli, the national manager of Antonio Fancello network, the territorial president of Nuoro Michele Tatti and the historic local manager Tonino Secchi.

“In the two-month period January-February 2022, 2,353 accidents were reported on the island, compared to 1,615 in the same period of 2021, with a growth of 45.7%. In Nuoro we go from 209 to 279, one of which is fatal, + 33.5% ".

The most consistent increase, he underlined, is recorded in Cagliari with a + 91%. In Sassari the increase was 36.2%, in Oristano by 29% and in South Sardinia by 9%.

Complaints of occupational diseases are also growing, + 26.3% (from 560 to 710) in Sardinia. Data "worrying that cannot be explained only with the production brakes caused by the health emergency", he highlighted.

“The numbers - the words of Andrea Soddu - tell us that the sanctioning aspect for companies and those who do not respect the laws on the subject has proved insufficient. In addition to controls, it is necessary to invest in the promotion, starting from school, of a true culture of safety and a feeling of rejection towards those who do not respect the rules and put people's lives at risk ".

The latest tragedy in chronological order in Sardinia is that of Sorso , in which Salvatore Piras , a worker from Ossi , lost his life at the age of 23.
