Having served half his sentence (the 16 years of imprisonment he was assigned for the sinking of the Costa Concordia which cost the lives of 32 people), former commander Francesco Schettino , in prison in Rebibbia, could soon leave his cell to go to work and thus give "one's own contribution to the institutions". His job will be to digitize the documents of some great Italian processes, subtracting them from the neglect of time. In particular, it will go to the State Discotheque, the public body that collects the Italian sound heritage, which has officially become the Central Institute for Sound and Audiovisual Heritage.
To make the request for this position was the same management of Rebibbia , Schettino - who for years has been engaged in socially useful works within the structure - should therefore digitize the documents of the Ustica trials, operating in a video surveillance environment and scan the papers that make up the files under the constant supervision of archivists-trainers.
Since last May, the former commander has the right to request alternative measures to detention in a cell.
