Behind the "October 17 Movement" there are no state entities or organizations, but only Youssef Siher, the 30-year-old researcher arrested on Saturday by Milan prosecutors for incitement to commit terrorism and organized violence at public demonstrations, and his wife, a cultural mediator living in the Como area, who is under investigation for the same crimes.
But with those messages spread on Telegram and Instagram, which could potentially reach 150,000 people, the prosecutor wrote in the arrest warrant that ordered his detention, Siher allegedly created "a state of intimidation among the population." He also allegedly took advantage of the events in the square last weekend to carry out a "plan aimed at committing criminal acts, with subversive intent."
In short, Milan prosecutors say, the goal was to "spark terror among the population," which is why he's being charged with the aggravating circumstance of terrorism. On social media, he called for "permanent mobilization every Saturday. Until the fall of this thieving government," calling for protesters to gather in squares in eight cities. Siher will be able to defend himself against the charges brought against him by prosecutor Francesca Crupi at the validation hearing, which will likely be held as early as tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest.
