They received a call, and the investigative section of the Carabinieri provincial command had to intervene to conduct investigations. The woman was immediately interviewed by the public prosecutor and arrested.

"She is in shock and the whole situation is dramatic from a family and social point of view," said Federica Tartara, a lawyer from Alessandria and public defender of her mother, who is being held in prison in Vercelli.

Investigators and prosecutors are exercising the utmost caution in the ongoing investigations and inquiries to clarify the exact circumstances of the incident and the true responsibilities for what happened.

Meanwhile, it turns out that the apartment, created like several others in the renovated former rectory of the church of Santa Maria Canale, was not inhabited by the little victim's Italian ex-partner, the father.

There had been significant family tensions in the woman's life and in the brief experience of her daughter . The couple had separated, and it was said to have occurred through conflict, resulting in financial and housing hardship. This is why social services had become involved in the mother and child. This occurred after the woman filed a complaint alleging domestic violence by her partner, involving situations and behavior she had endured in the presence of her daughter when the child was one year old. The civil case was closed because the incidents reported by the woman were not considered sufficiently significant.

According to the social emergency response process, financial support was provided in a situation deemed critical, helping to meet the 30-year-old's housing needs with her child. At the same time, comprehensive support for the parent-daughter unit was implemented, with a focus on restoring the father's parenting and supporting the couple through educational activities for both adults. During the meetings, however, no reference emerged to incidents that compromised the child's safety, nor to any behavior by the mother that could lead to last night's tragic outcome.

The episode deeply shocked the local community, starting with the mayor, Federico Chiodi, who urged respect and the avoidance of hasty judgments and prejudices, without issuing an official statement.
