Berlusconi was " a great defender of the national interest ".

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the day of the state funeral recalls Silvio Berlusconi with a letter to Corriere.

"The many lights of his figure - he writes - prevail, on the human level and even more so on the political one, having been a formidable defender of our national interest and of our productive and social fabric as party leader and as Prime Minister".

On his name, he continues, "the Italians are divided and the judgment of history will be different from that of the news. More serene, meditated and balanced ».

Again: «There are those who fought him politically with loyalty and those who instead used improper means to defeat him, but at the end of this story his opponents lost».

Then what for the prime minister is Cav's great merit and for his political opponents the great fault: « Berlusconi prevented the post-communists from taking power in Italy a few years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, which had sanctioned the end of communism in Europe. This is, in the end, the great fault that the left has never forgiven him ».

And again, with him «the era of alternation in government began, which gave Italy a western and contemporary dimension, strengthening the entire nation internationally. Berlusconi had the timing and seized the moment, accelerating the transformation processes already underway on the right and left".

Finally, Giorgia Meloni explains the empathy that many Italians felt for the leader of Forza Italia: «He was one of them, one who had made it. The history of Berlusconi's family is that of many Italians who in the post-war period, with little money and a lot of hope, achieved what has been called the Italian miracle ».
