The Court of Assizes of Parma, presided over by Judge Alessandro Conti, deems it necessary to order a psychiatric assessment on Chiara Petrolini's mental capacity at the time of the events and, if applicable, her social dangerousness .

The assignment of the task, to experts who will be appointed outside the hearing, will be made on September 15, when the first witnesses will also be heard.

Thus ended the first hearing of the trial against the young woman accused of premeditated double homicide and suppression of the bodies of her two newborn children, buried in the garden.

Chiara Petrolini's ex-boyfriend, Samuel Granelli, "is interested in knowing who Chiara is, but above all why she did it: it's his need," said the lawyer Monica Moschioni, civil defender for the young man. Her client "faces the proceedings with suffering, which leads him to discover something he didn't know. He is accompanied on a support path, he wants to reach the truth of the facts." There was no contact between the two boys in the courtroom, even though they were sitting not far apart: "We are trying to avoid contact, it is very impactful," confirmed Moschioni.

"No one had noticed anything, there were no conditions to suspect the pregnancy ," added the lawyer. "Samuel knew a Chiara before the facts, with whom he had a relationship like a 21-year-old boy can have, who he never thought could ever commit the act for which there is this trial. Now he is waiting to find out who Chiara is. He was shocked, he couldn't believe it. In the immediate aftermath he defended her, saying that it was not possible that they were Chiara's children," she added.

For lawyer Nicola Tria, Chiara Petrolini's defender, what happened has no logical and rational motivation, but "can only be explained if we investigate in that direction", that is, in Chiara Petrolini's mind.
