The appeal trial for the death of Davide Astori , the Fiorentina (and former Cagliari) captain found dead on the morning of 4 March 2018 in a hotel room in Udine, where he was away with the team, has been postponed to 2025.

Accused of manslaughter is Professor Giorgio Galanti , sentenced at first instance in 2021, with an abbreviated trial, to one year in prison (suspended sentence), for two fitness certificates issued to the player when he was medical director of Sports Medicine of the Aou of Careggi.

Yesterday in court in Florence was supposed to be the day of the start of the discussion, but a different date was identified for the "oral discussion" of the trial, that of 10 April 2025. As far as we know, the appeal judgment had been inserted in a calendar reserved exclusively for trials that take place in "paper" form and are resolved with the exchange of documents between the general prosecutor's office and the defense before the judges' decision, incompatible with the holding of an oral hearing. Attorney General Fabio Origlio also highlighted a shortage of staff for magistrates and chancellors at the Court of Appeal of Florence. And Antonio Settembre, president of the third section of the same Court, destined by jurisdiction to decide on the proceedings for Astori's death, explained that it was not possible to find a useful date for the oral discussion of the trial before April 2025.

According to what was ascertained by the autopsy, Astori's death was caused by cardiac arrest due to an arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy.
