"We are determined to do everything necessary to ensure our security. In this context, I have authorized the Air Force to bomb strategic military capabilities left by the Syrian army, so that they do not fall into the hands of jihadists ."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement released by his office. The operation damaged about 80 percent of Syria's strategic military capabilities, especially the navy, and came after years of gathering intelligence : "It was indeed an attack that had been planned for years," Israeli military sources told Channel 12.

Speaking from the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv, the prime minister added: “ We want to have relations with the new Syrian regime . But if this regime allows Iran to return to Syria, or allows the transfer of Iranian weapons or any other weapons to Hezbollah, or if it attacks us, we will respond forcefully and make them pay a heavy price . What happened to the previous regime will also happen to this one.” What Israel is doing, he concluded, “ is similar to what the British Royal Air Force did when it bombed the navy of the Vichy regime that collaborated with the Nazis, to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Nazis .”

Erdogan: «An aggression»

President Erdogan called Israel's military advance in Syria "an aggression" during a phone call with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, adding that " this attitude does not contribute to the stability of Syria and that it is imperative that Syria be freed from terrorist elements." According to the Presidency of the Republic of Ankara, Erdogan said that "recent developments have shown how thorough the humanitarian and conscientious policy pursued by Turkey was," stressing "the importance of preserving the territorial integrity of Syria."

The executions

Meanwhile, shocking videos are spreading from various Syrian cities showing summary executions carried out by unspecified armed men against alleged perpetrators of massacres of civilians committed on behalf of the deposed regime of Bashar al Assad. The videos, verified as authentic and which ANSA was able to view, were filmed today in Idlib, in the area of Hama and in that of Damascus. They show executions of men on their knees, shots to the temple, machine gun fire against bodies on the ground. One film shows the bodies of three lifeless men dragged by a car through the streets of Idlib while the enraged crowd kicks the mangled bodies.
