Donald Trump has changed the recipe for Coca-Cola sold in the United States. The iconic brand has in fact decided to abandon corn syrup and switch to cane sugar .

The announcement was made by the US president himself, a huge consumer of the world's most famous carbonated drink.

While the agri-food giant uses classic sucrose in Europe, American consumers receive the drink sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup .

"I've discussed using real cane sugar in Coca-Cola in the United States with Coca-Cola, and they've agreed," Donald Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth . "I'd like to thank everyone at Coca-Cola. It's going to be a great decision on their part, you'll see. It's just better!" Trump exulted.

“We appreciate President Trump’s enthusiasm for our iconic brand,” the American company commented on its website .

ASF spread in the United States in the 1970s thanks to government subsidies for corn producers and high customs duties on cane sugar. Coca-Cola's decision could have repercussions for corn producers in the "Corn Belt," a region of the Midwest that is a key constituency for Donald Trump .

American consumers sometimes have access to Mexican Coca-Cola, already made with cane sugar, which is sold at a higher price in some stores because it is considered to have a better flavor. Donald Trump is an avid drinker of Diet Coca-Cola , sweetened with aspartame, a compound considered a potential carcinogen by experts at the World Health Organization.
