Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the joint statement by European leaders and the EU Commission on the conflict in Ukraine "another Nazi leaflet."
"Zelensky's office has published a joint statement calling for a ceasefire. But not the kind that would be achieved by cutting off the supply of weapons to Kiev's terrorists. On the contrary, another Nazi leaflet claims that success in achieving peace in Ukraine can only be achieved by putting pressure on Russia and supporting Kiev ," reads a post on Telegram.
And to add fuel to the fire, Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Dmitry Medvedev added: "While Euro-imbeciles are trying to thwart American attempts to help resolve the Ukrainian conflict , the dying Bandera regime (Ukraine, ed.) is panickingly recruiting the vilest scum of humanity to the front," he wrote on Telegram, accusing Kiev of recruiting South American drug lords to fight.
Zelensky, on the other hand, thanks and "fully supports" the statement by French President Macron, Prime Minister Meloni, German Chancellor Merz, Polish Prime Minister Tusk, British Prime Minister Starmer, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Finnish President Stubb . "The end of the war must be just, and I am grateful to all those who now stand with Ukraine and our people for peace in Ukraine, which defends the vital security interests of our European peoples."
Europeans have called for a ceasefire and for Ukraine and the EU to be involved in the negotiations as August 15 approaches, the day of the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska on the war, from which Zelensky has been excluded for the moment .
