A Catholic priest, Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari , celebrating an evening Mass in southwestern Ecuador died after a crucifix fell on him during the livestreamed service, local media reported. The tragic accident occurred yesterday evening in the Archdiocese of Guayaquil, a coastal city 265 kilometers southwest of the capital, Quito.

Footage of the religious service shows a heavy wooden crucifix falling from the wall above the altar and striking Sánchez in the head as he was celebrating Mass. Worshippers attempted to help him, while the broadcast on social media continued . Local authorities have not commented on the incident.
