Up to two years in prison for those who are responsible for catcalling, or unwanted appreciation, with words, whistles and other sexual harassment carried out on the street.

The new law was approved by the House of Commons in London and will come into effect in England and Wales.

For the Conservative MP Greg Clark, first signatory of the provision supported by the Tory government of Rishi Sunak, it is "surprising that this type of behavior has not constituted a crime up to now and it is necessary to fill the regulatory vacuum". The provision is destined to be definitively approved in a very short time.

According to a UK survey by YouGov , two thirds of women feel unsafe walking alone at night . While for the Crown Prosecution Service women and girls under 34 are more likely to be targets of sexual harassment.
