Europe is alarmed by the escalation of Russia's hybrid war after Berlin accused Moscow of being responsible for the attempted drone bomb attack on Leipzig airport on August 4 and closed the Russian consulate in Bonn in retaliation.

Ursula von der Leyen spoke with Chancellor Merz and announced "responses from the EU." NATO Secretary General Rutte also called the German Chancellor: "Unequivocal evidence of Russian responsibility, but Moscow's attempts to intimidate us will fail."

More explosive devices were found today near a power line in Brandenburg, while drones roamed Estonian skies overnight, causing allied jets to take flight. Meanwhile, the Kremlin announced it would respond to Germany's "anti-Russian decisions."

"Italy's full solidarity with Germany following the Russian hybrid attack in Leipzig," Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on social media. "The security of our Allies is the security of all of us," she added in a post written in English. "Attempts to intimidate us or create a rift among the Allies will not succeed: hybrid actions against any of us are a matter that concerns us all, and will be addressed with a united response. In times like this, it is essential to remain steadfast, continue to work closely together, and maintain a credible deterrent posture to protect the safety of our citizens."
