A 43-year-old Swiss man was arrested this morning by cantonal police as part of the investigation into the shooting at a rave in Aarau that killed an Italian woman.

The Corriere del Ticino reports this. According to the police, he was the sole perpetrator of the crime.

It had been a "fantastic rave, with a great atmosphere, wonderful people, and incredible energy." Then came the numerous gunshots, which some attendees initially mistook for fireworks. During the night between Saturday and Sunday, the rave held at the Pferderennbahn in Schachen, Aarau, Switzerland, quickly turned into a nightmare. A 22-year-old woman, Maria Spinelli, an Italian citizen originally from Atri, Abruzzo, died on the scene from her injuries. Five other people, four men and a woman, aged between 24 and 27, including two Italians, were injured, some seriously. The two Italians have already been able to return home, and the other victims are not in danger of dying.

The possible motives and exact circumstances of the incident have not yet been clarified. Investigators are pursuing three hypotheses: a terrorist attack, an indiscriminate shooting, or criminal activity of unknown nature, such as a vendetta within a criminal network, explained Aargau Cantonal Police Commander Michael Leupold in a press conference, cited by the Swiss news agency Keystone-SDA.

Police found traces of ammunition belonging to two different weapons. One of these traces is attributable to long weapons, such as assault rifles, Matthias Schildknecht, head of operations, told the media. The other traces of ammunition appear to belong to 9 mm caliber weapons, the Swiss news agency Keystone-SDA reports.
