An explosion occurred this morning around 5 a.m. at the central station in Augsburg, Germany.

Police intervention is underway, reports Bild, according to which an as yet unidentified object exploded in an internal passageway of a building.

Local authorities said several people were injured, but according to reports , they were not serious. Two people reported minor injuries from acoustic shock , according to Bild. Window panes were also reportedly damaged by the blast.

The cause of the explosion is still unknown.

Bomb squad members from the Bavarian State Criminal Investigations Office are on site . Due to the ongoing operation, the streets in the area of the main station are currently closed to traffic , the police write on X. Local public transport in Augsburg is also affected by the disruption.

A police spokesperson also told Bild that the station building and Platform 1 are currently closed. Rail traffic is also affected.
