The Tepilora, Rio Posada and Montalbo Biosphere Reserve celebrates, together with 738 other areas of the world, of which 20 throughout Italy and only one in Sardinia, the first world day of Mab Unesco Biosphere reserves, territories where man and nature have succeeded find a balance and manage to coexist in the best way.

After the birth in 2014 of the Tepilora Regional Natural Park, between the territories of Bitti, Lodè, Torpè and Posada, in 2017 international recognition arrived with the award in Paris of the title of Biosphere Reserve MaB (Man and the Biosphere) UNESCO for Tepilora, Rio Posada and Montalbo. A recognition that started from the four historic municipalities of the Park and extended to 13 other realities : Alà dei Sardi, Buddusò, Budoni, Galtellì, Irgoli, Loculi, Lula, Onanì, Orune, Osidda, Padru, San Teodoro, Siniscola. The reserve therefore extends from the upper Barbagia to the Baronie , passing through Montacuto and lower Gallura for over 165 thousand hectares with about 50 thousand inhabitants, of which about half are between the coastal municipalities of Siniscola, Budoni, San Teodoro and Posada.

The title of "Biosphere Reserve" aims to promote a sustainable development process in the local population , promoting traditional activities (agriculture and crafts) and strengthening the awareness of the need to conserve natural and cultivated biodiversity, water quality, habitat and species, cultural, archaeological and landscape diversity.

Within the territory there are three other Unesco recognitions : the Canto a Tenore, a typical singing expression of the Sardinian pastoral culture, recognized as a Unesco intangible heritage; the practice of Transhumance and that of the construction and conservation of dry stone walls.

The Reserve, in collaboration with the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, has been engaged for several months as a partner in an international cooperation project with El Salvador, through the initiative "PRENADES - Protection of Natural Resources and Local Sustainable Development in the Apaneca Biosphere Reserve - Ilamatepecla " . In the coming weeks, two representatives of the Tepilora Reserve, Rio Posada and Montalbo, will reach the Central American country for a series of intercultural exchange initiatives which aim to share the good practices we have achieved in Italy and by them in Salvador. "A project - explained the director of the Tepilora Park, Marianna Mossa - that makes our Biosphere a reality that is increasingly open to confrontation with peoples, even further away, and that strengthens the spirit of sharing knowledge that is the basis of cooperation between states promoted by the United Nations ”.
